Note: As a beloved RAV recipient, Walt D's articles and comments carry 57.3% more weight than yours.
Only four short months in and 2008 has seen more nasty little bickerfests than in the first two previous years combined. So far, we have had to suffer through:
Pasigate (also known as Albagate)
Killfilegate (okay, I made this one up but it wouldn't surprise me)
There were probably more gates but I have been inactive for a while and missed a few steps.
What happened to the Newsvine we used to know and love? Where we happily insulted each others integrity, intelligence and grammar and then moved on without starting 200 comment schoolyard-level flameapaloozas and initiating verbal swirlies and wedgies from Calvin or Emily?
Must my comment tracker be deluged with articles informing me that Dennis is a jerk (like that's news)? That nudity is good (I knew that too)? That RAV winners are arrogant wankers (incoming from glass structure!)?
Like any conscientious viner, I diligently read all the tracked comments only to find painstakingly crafted manifestos essentially saying no more than "oh yeah?" or "sez you". Can't we all go back to bickering about more news-relevant topics like atheism-vs-religion, liberals-vs-conservatives, Cheney-vs-Satan, chickens-vs-zombies etc.? Christ, it's an an election year! Surely, we can troll each other silly commenting on McCain's trophy wife, Clinton's nerve-shredding shrillness or Obama's Mickey Mouse ears.
Something has shifted here and I want to know what it is. More importantly, I want to know how it can be fixed.
